Anniversary

December is a busy time for us. Jason's birthday is in December, our anniversary is also in December, and of course Christmas. We went to the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina for our 5th anniversary. It is the largest mansion in the country, built in 1895. It has an indoor pool with underwater lights and a bowling alley, which was definitely not common in homes around the turn of the century. See www.biltmore.com for more photos and info.

We had a bit of an adventure trying to get there. We drove from Knoxville, Tennessee up through the southern Appalachian mountains and got caught in a snow storm. While on the interstate we had to drive around a jack-knifed semi, passed dozens of cars that slid off the freeway, and almost got stuck ourselves on an on-ramp. They shut down I-26 and hundreds of motorists were stranded. Luckily we made it to a hotel and spent the night. The next morning we tried again and made it there. We took the video below of what it looked like the morning after the big storm. Most of the vehicles are abandoned and the motorists probably stayed in a nearby shelter that was set up for them.
